Cellulose insulation is offered in loose, free cellulose fibres or insulating boards. Insulation material made of cellulose fibres is used as non loadable insulating material for thermal and acoustic insulations. Cellulose fibres are mainly made of waste paper by mechanical crushing. By adding mineral salts during the manufacturing process the product can be provided with fire protection and an better resistance to biological attack. The product is used as a cavity insulation for walls, ceilings/floors and roofs. Loose, free cellulose fibres are inserted under pressure by machine processing in to the provided cavities and bond there to a compact insulating slab. The process of filling in the insulating material either takes place in pre-fabrication or at the construction site. The reaction to fire of cellulose insulation is classified according to EN 13501-1. The minimum requirement of the product as a building material is reaction of Euroclass E. But there are also cellulose insulation materials, which achieve under certain installation conditions reaction of Euroclass B. The processing guidelines of the manufacturer have to be followed. Cellulose insulation material requires a certificate of conformity in accordance with European Technical Assessment (ETA). The CE-certification will be displayed on the products, the packaging or the attached label.
